From International Department of the CC of the PCUSA
On January 11th, 2021 the US State Department unilaterally designated Cuba as a “State Sponsor of Terrorism.” With only 9 days left in the Trump administration’s term in office, the designation reverses President Obama’s removal of Cuba from the list in 2015.
Since the Cuban Revolution in 1959, the United States has terrorized Cuba and its people. It has trained terrorist mercenaries to invade as witnessed in the failed Bay of Pigs invasion. It has trained and carried out terrorist attacks like the bombing of Cubana Airline 455 in 1976 which killed 73 people. The CIA trained and backed Cuban exiles who carried out the bombing were not only never brought to justice but lived out their lives in peace and luxury in the United States. According the Cuban government, “attacks by members of the extreme rightwing Cuban-American terrorist organizations, backed by the US Government, have killed 3,478 Cubans and 2,099 other people have been maimed for life.”
The United States made over 600 assassination attempts against the late Fidel Castro. Moreover, the United States still occupies sovereign Cuban territory at Guantanamo Bay where it tortures and imprisons people in its “War on Terror.”
Contrary to the United States, Cuba exports doctors and medical personnel as Fidel famously pronounced, “¡Médicos y no bombas!”
The heroic people of Cuba, under the leadership of the Communist Party of Cuba, have achieved tremendous advances in healthcare, education, standards of living, and dignity amidst the imperialist assault from the United States. The Cuban Revolution continues to be a beacon as it has been for over half a century to all workers and oppressed peoples. Cuba supports the self-determination of oppressed peoples and nations against US-EU-NATO imperialism.
The Party of Communists USA strongly condemns this act by the United States government, recognizing it as a flagrant escalation of US imperialist aggression towards Cuba, the Communist Party of Cuba, and its people. We demand this designation be immediately revoked along with an end to the barbaric and genocidal blockade that has led to countless deaths and misery for the Cuban people.
We stand in full solidarity with the Cuban people, the Communist Party of Cuba, and the Cuban government!
